Question:
tumblr crushes old and new?
Asked by Anonymous
Answer:
Oh, god. I get crushes on everyone- seriously! All it takes is something I agree with, or making me laugh and I’m like “Oh, I love you so much!”
Fickle, I guess.
I’m also weird and somewhat socially blind so I understand (finally) that the people I love don’t necessarily love one another. And that’s Ok.
I love quelola, and daniellemertina for their well thought out advocacy. I never fail to learn something.
I think kylamcfatterson is an all around babe and great at doin’ her own thang.
Msillzmatic is in California too, and I would love to chill with her on the beach.
Loves of my Tumblr (and other) life include: theblackhood theursinefellow and far-toowhite.
I love bigfatheathen and whenfatsattack and look forward to visiting and slipping into a vegan food coma with them someday! Also I think they should make good on being together forever in queer cohabitation and having a baby. Seriously, I think it’d be the most loved baby ever.
I don’t follow many famous people on Tumblr but I do love Neil Gaiman to within an inch of his life.
I also have a food crush on Chef Carla Hall.
Question:
$15 to feed 3 people at McDick's, right? My mom is on a similar budget, $30 a week to feed herself, me, my brother, and my aunt. She go to local markets -- Mexican market, Farmers market to find cheap produce, she go through coupons+sales to find rice, chicken, sale foods. She spend $8-$10 for dinner for 2 days, she can get 2 veggies, make rice. I'm wondering, do other low-income people do the same? Do they spend that kind of time that she does? Do you?

Answer:
We don’t eat fast food, there is a blog entry about me buying 3 tacos at Taco Bell and it’s the first time we had been there in two years.
My specific situation includes: No car and no good access to public transportation, no stove, and 3 people in a 400 square foot cabin. I have lupus and psoriatic arthritis (exhaustion and pain make my activity level limited). I am also primary caregiver to a six year old with autism- he gets overwhelmed easily and if I am by myself I can’t control him if he decides to run away or throw a violent fit.
So, even though there is a grocery store a ten minute walk from us, it often falls to my partner to do the shopping between shifts at work.
I don’t usually like participating in these kinds of “compare my life to yours” because what your mom is capable of is not what everyone is capable of- it’s just what she is capable of.
Thank you for the clarification that you mean no disrespect, I hope this helps paint a broader picture for you. :-)
ETA: Also, my son is on a specific diet- no gluten (wheat protein) and no casein (dairy protein), no high fructose corn syrup, no red #40, and very limited sugar. This diet has helped his behavior immensely and going off of it is not an option. The foods we buy him take up the bulk of our budget.

Anonymous asked: nobody cares about your fucking uterus. get over it. Ron Paul is not taking away anyone’s right to reproductive freedom. This country is fucked in so many ways and you can’t look past a wedge issue like this that will NEVER effect anyone directly.
I care about my uterus and the uteruses (uteri?) of others. I also care about our rights to have a family (or not) when we so choose. This country is fucked in a lot of different ways. Why add to it by making safe, legal abortion no longer safe and no longer legal?
And yes, he would take away reproductive freedom. He’s written and co-sponsored bills to do just that - from defunding Planned Parenthood, to outright banning abortion. Of course, there’s other reasons why Ron Paul is ridiculous. Here’s a laundry list, complete with links. But reproductive rights? That’s something he should be entirely familiar with, considering his job as an OB/GYN. He should be familiar with the complications that can arise when reproductive rights are denied.
And it will never affect anyone directly? How about me? I want to avoid pregnancy, and yet still enjoy sex within my heterosexual, monogamous marriage. (You know, the kind the GOP supposedly likes, and encourges.) So Catholic roulette? That method (rhythm method) has a high rate of failure when a person’s menstrual cycle can’t be tracked well.
So let’s pretend I’ve become pregnant. Oopsies! Well, there goes the likelihood of law school. But whatever, it’s not like I should be educated anyhow, right? And then, in about the fifth month of pregnancy, I begin bleeding uncontrollably. And that doctor looks at me and says, “Sorry, I’m going to let you bleed because I don’t do abortions.” Typically, he’s supposed to call someone - but that doesn’t always happen. And under President Ron Paul, the conscience clause states he doesn’t have to save my life. Because his own reasons.
Don’t believe me? This already happened. Not to me, but to another woman who barely survived. A historical overview of abortion is here.
Your attitude of “nobody cares” leads to headlines like this:

Read Mrs. Jones’ story here. Or Susannah Lattin’s story. Or look at the picture of Geraldine Santoro face-down and bloody after dying on the floor of a hotel after an illegal abortion. (Warning: The photo is graphic).
Or let’s go global. Did you know abortion is more common in countries where it is banned? From Time magazine:
About 47,000 women died from unsafe abortions in 2008, and another 8.5 million women had serious medical complications. Almost all unsafe abortions were in developing countries, where family planning and contraceptive programs have mostly levelled off.
But who cares? They’re just women. We’re all just a bunch of whiny bitches who don’t understand the genius of Ron Paul, right? These are not wedge issues. You want to talk about personal liberty? How about liberty to choose when to raise a family? How about the rights of people to keep government out from between our legs? Come out from behind your gray box and defend your heartlessness.
In summary, fuck your “nobody cares” sentiment and fuck Ron Paul.

Anonymous asked: Your post about the Christian faith was completely inappropriate. I hope you do realize that that verse you used was most definitely out of context. I enjoy your posts about silly things but the last post was seriously uncalled for.
Rick Perry’s interpretation of the Christian faith is inappropriate. His homophobic views are based on a single line in Leviticus that is 5,000 years old and has been translated dozens of times. He condemns homosexuals because this line says they are an abomination, and yet he ignores every other passage in the whole of Leviticus. You cannot cherry pick the things that fit your agenda and ignore the rest.
The quote I used was from that same book in the old testament. The same book that says you can own slaves. The same book that says if you touch a menstruating woman you have to sacrifice a goat to get the period cooties off you. Rick Perry is the one using the Bible out of context. I’m just trying to shine a light on it.

Here’s what gets me: People are wondering “what happens next?” and “What will anonymous do?” When you hear WE ARE ANONYMOUS- it means that, WE are ANONYMOUS. Not some faceless group out there fighting our battles for us.
If you want to know what happens next, go out and make it happen.
Dammit. This was going to be a fashion Tumblr.
